TP-Link TL-WR710N, a router to take with you

Routers and network-related products are going through a golden age, even with the difficult times we live in. Manufacturers like TP-Link keep innovating with products like the one we’ll review today, a small and portable router capable of setting up a wireless network almost anywhere.

The new TP-Link TL-WR710N is a small and light device (85 x 75 x 28 millimeters) that can fit anywhere, designed to work simply by connecting it to a power outlet. It can work as a router thanks to its Ethernet ports, but it’s also an excellent Wi-Fi repeater, can be used with a smart TV or game console and can also work as an access point.

With its USB 2.0 port, you can connect to it all kinds of USB drives to share your files with any computer connected to the network. It can also work as a very useful charger for mobile devices; it supports the Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n standard, works with the 2.4 GHz band and offers a maximum speed of 150 Mbps.

TP-Link has made the installing process very simple and easy; just connect it to the local network and make some very simple configurations on its website. It’s also very easy to use as a Wi-Fi repeater, though its performance is not as good when used this way.

The TP-Link TL-WR710N performed impeccably during our tests. Its range is great and easily covers two or three big rooms, without interference, irregular signal or any issue to assign IPs to every connected device. Naturally, it can’t compete against a standard device (which is slightly more expensive), but it’s really useful for the purpose it was created for: taking an excellent, efficient router with you wherever you go.

Conclusions

As always, TP-Link offers a beautifully-designed product with excellent performance and a very affordable price (it can be found for as little as 25 Euros). If you’re looking for a portable Wi-Fi router that’s easy to configure and very efficient, this is for you.

Still, we missed the 3G capabilities, which would’ve made this product a much more complete one, though we understand TP-Link’s objective was offering a simple and affordable device, and this would’ve increased its price way beyond that goal.
