The PLC have been out for quite a while; these devices can use our home’s electrical wiring to, for example, transmit data without any additional installation. Most models today offer speeds of 300 Mbps, and 500 to 600 Mbps for the fastest models.
The upsides are obvious, but there are also certain downsides like the interference the electricity produces, how dependent they are on the quality of the installation or many other that can affect your device’s speed. TP-LINK has now introduced the TL-PA8010, one of the first PLC capable of offering 1 Gbps of speed.
With these speeds, and even if there are interferences or the common issues of these devices, the speed really makes you consider ditching your Wi-Fi network and instead use your home or office’s electrical wiring. The maximum range of this PLC is about 300 meters. They render the power outlet they’re connected to completely useless, though, something that can be avoided by attaching a female power plug, but this isn’t possible if you have a PA8010.
They will hit the market by the end of March, although its official release price is still unknown.

TP-Link will soon release a very powerful neutral Wi-Fi N router. The new model from this Chinese company is the TP-Link TL-WR841HP, ideal for those who need long range Wi-Fi. The main feature of this new model is its two 5dBi antennas, which translates into a Wi-Fi range that’s four times greater than a normal router’s.
The main wireless feature of this router is the Wi-Fi N connectivity, capable of reaching speeds of up to 300Mbps in the 2.4GHz bandwidth thanks to its two MIMO 2T2R external antennas with a gain of 5dBi.
Thanks to these antennas, we can get up to twice as much speed if you’re too far away from the access point and you can stream your HD videos from anywhere, although it is recommended that you use a Wi-Fi card to fully take advantage of this router’s capabilities.
The router also features 4 Fast-Ethernet LAN ports and one Fast-Ethernet WAN port. It lacks, however, USB ports to locally share printers and files.
Another feature of this router is the WPS button to easily and quickly synchronize the router with Wi-Fi clients, as long as they also support WPS connectivity.
A CD with an installation wizard is included; the included drivers and programs will let you customize the setting to suit all your needs.
