New FRITZ! 7490 router with Wi-Fi 802.11ac

FRITZ!Box 7490 is the name of the new Wi-Fi 802.11ac router from AVM, capable of reaching speeds of 1300 Mbit/s and 450 Mbit/s simultaneously in the 5 and 2.4 GHz bands. This makes it the best device from the German company.

This is a perfect device for setting up a “Smart Home”, since it’s capable of automating certain functions (like controlling the lighting or installing webcams) and it integrates every phone solution in a single network.


It’s compatible with VDSL, ADSL2+, cable and optic fiber, and it features four LAN gigabit ports, as well as two USB 3.0 ports to connect printers and storage devices. On the other hand, the FRITZ!Box 7490 comes with its own multimedia server for music, pictures and videos, so you can transform this router into a NAS.

In regards to the operating system, it comes with FRITZ!OS 6.01, which we’ve already talked about.

As for to phone functions, the FRITZ!Box 7490 allows the user to make HD calls after connecting any kind of phone (DECT, IP, RDSI or analog) and features an answering machine, fax and synchronization of your contacts thanks to its Cloud service. It also features a DECT dock for up to six wireless phones.

Another interesting function is that it can create Wi-Fi connection for guests only through a QR code, so they’re isolated from the main network and to connect they’d just have to scan the code, as well as the FRITZ!Apps, which make it easier to access your network no matter where you are.
